Introduction
Although the purpose of Mountain-Portal is to demonstrate
a project
seeking funds and although it uses material appropriate to
last year, the
following item dates from March 2001.
It is the latest edition of a most valuable newsletter compiled by a Mountain Agenda colleague Dr. Lawrence S. Hamilton and distributed without institutional support.
Its circulation is severely limited by financial constraints. It is posted to bring it to the attention of potential donors and to illustrate the depth and intensity of activity in one sector of mountain environmental affairs, protected areas.
Dr. Larry Hamilton is Vice-Chair for Mountains in IUCN's World Commission on Protected Areas. The circulation of "UPDATE" should be world wide through the Internet where its outreach would be greatly increased and its effectiveness boosted.
Funds mobilized to establish Mountain-Portal would support Larry Hamilton's work and give it the wider circulation it deserves.
