There are literally millions of links to web sites round the world and even in a restricted sector like mountains there are many hundreds.
Applying the criterion -"is this site likely to help in advocacy and media work and is it quick to get and clear to read?" Mountain-Portal will post a variable number of them each updatewith a line of description. Like other websites it will also post a much longer list without comments simply for exploration.

Sample sites

- Swiss Office for the Environment , Forests and Landscapes

 - best site for alpine research but not yet in English.

 - BBC round the clock on World Service with much environmental news ranging from wildlife to sustainable development

 - The Swiss Biodiversity Forum is the platform for information exchange in the field of biological diversity. First aim is to establish strong links among scientists of all disciplines in Switzerland and abroad. Then improve communication pathways between scientists, practitioners, and the public.

 - Bobsleigh and tobogganing - A site about what many see as a minority sport with heavy infrastructure demands--
not the impression this enthusiastic site conveys.

 - A very rich site indeedwith portals opening onto the botany of many countries with a key offering called A Biologist's Guide to Internet Resources by Una Smith. A vast list of topics each of which requires only one click to access.

 - All on plants but so loaded with adverts that seeing the text is a task. Nevertheless a mine of information
